FREEDOM SCHOOL

Freedom School is a national summer literacy program provided in partnership with Freedom School Partners and Children's Defense Fund.  Scholars at McPIE’s Christ Lutheran site range from kindergarten through middle school.  In addition to providing a safe and enriching environment for these children, this program strengthens academic skills, builds self-esteem, and fosters a love for reading, all of which will support their future success in school and beyond.  With age appropriate programming for all, this enables Middle School students to participate along with their younger and older siblings.  Summer learning loss is the biggest single factor in the achievement gap.  Freedom School’s literacy-based curriculum has shown measurable results and provides so much more with the relationships that are formed!
